Milli Vanilli’s Fabrice Morvan on Lip-Syncing… Really?

Amy Laviero :: Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 5:30 pm

Lip-syncing O.G. Fabrice Morvan of Milli Vanilli has spoken from the depths of obscurity today, telling USA Today that music is “not about being authentic anymore, it’s about being entertaining.” While his statement is not without validity, it is still rather humorous considering he and his partner-in-performing-crime, Rob Pilatus, didn’t sing one lick of their songs live, or otherwise.

“What we were crucified for, you see everywhere,” Morvan noted.

Considering all the auto-tuned T-Pain wannabes and lip-syncing Britney Spears clones of today, he is kind of right. MORE »

These New Puritans Release New Track

Amy Laviero :: Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 3:10 pm

These New Puritans second album, Hidden, has been greeted with a rapturous reception in the U.K. and Europe and recent reviews are hailing it “the first masterpiece of the decade.” A bit hyperbolic, if you ask me. But hey, what do I know? I invite you to form your own judgment by listening to the track here. For me, it’s a bit too Gregorian; dragging chains and a staccato bass drum only succeeded in reminding me of Monty Python and left me searching for the nearest Bible with which to smack myself.

Broken Bells Debut Music Video on MySpace

Amy Laviero :: Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 2:00 pm

Comprised of artist/producer Danger Mouse and James Mercer, lead vocalist of the Shins, Broken Bells describe themselves as “melodic, but experimental too.” Their first single begins with what sounds like a remix of all my favorite childhood video games and I’m loving it. Quickly building to the chorus, the song is catchy and sad and and pretty all at the same time. The recently released music video depicts with the duo wandering an empty road at night and can be seen here. MORE »

Banksy Premieres “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” May or May Not Have Attended Sundance

Amy Laviero :: Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 12:30 pm

Oh Banksy, you never cease to entertain. On January 24th at the Sundance Film Festival, the infamous British street artist debuted “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” a documentary which he describes as a “street art disaster film” and whose namesake pokes fun at Disney Land/World’s evil, albeit ingenious marketing strategy of forcing patrons to exit through their gift shops. Although Banksy does (allegedly) make his first ever appearance in the film, his face is blurred and his voice is garbled. And just because he likes to fuck with us, it has been reported that he may or may not have attended the premiere. He did, however, issue the following statement to Sundance Programming Director, John Cooper: MORE »

Cindy McCain, Gay Marriage Advocate?

Amy Laviero :: Friday, January 22nd, 2010 1:30 pm

20100120_cindymccainnh8_560x375If you type Cindy McCain’s name into a Google search bar, a conglomerate of search suggestions will appear. These include, but are not limited to, “Cindy McCain affair,” “Cindy McCain drugs,” Cindy McCain swimsuit,” and last, but certainly not least, “Cindy McCain oatmeal butterscotch cookies.” Sounds like my type of woman.

None of these surprised me more than the most recent addition to the McCain “controversy;” her ad campaign with No H8, an organization founded as a direct response to the passage of California’s Proposition 8. MORE »

Scott Brown’s Foxy Family

Amy Laviero :: Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 2:40 pm

Since winning the Massachusetts Senate seat yesterday, Scott Brown’s family is being Googled up and down by inquisitive Americans. As the first Republican to hold said seat since 1972, Brown fills the void caused by the death of Ted Kennedy last August. Sadly, he has promised to bury the Democrat’s health-care plan which Kennedy had helped push. MORE »

Hey New York, A Gift From Me to You

Amy Laviero :: Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 1:25 pm

A study published last month reported that, when it comes to happiness, New York ranks dead last when compared to any other state in the country.  As if this accomplishment weren’t enough, the whole tri-state area monopolizes the bottom three spots on the list with Connecticut at 51 and New Joisey at 50.  Not only is New York sad but so are its neighbors.  MORE »
