Banksy Premieres “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” May or May Not Have Attended Sundance

Amy Laviero :: Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 12:30 pm

Oh Banksy, you never cease to entertain. On January 24th at the Sundance Film Festival, the infamous British street artist debuted “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” a documentary which he describes as a “street art disaster film” and whose namesake pokes fun at Disney Land/World’s evil, albeit ingenious marketing strategy of forcing patrons to exit through their gift shops. Although Banksy does (allegedly) make his first ever appearance in the film, his face is blurred and his voice is garbled. And just because he likes to fuck with us, it has been reported that he may or may not have attended the premiere. He did, however, issue the following statement to Sundance Programming Director, John Cooper: MORE »

Here’s a video we recently filmed with Noah and the Whale during their three-night stint at the Mercury Lounge. The indie film-obsessed band talk about their movie, The First Days of Spring, their upcoming album, and their tour. (We tried getting their thoughts on Fantastic Mr. Fox, but they hadn’t seen it yet. We bet they loved it.)

Check it out after the jump or over at VTech.

Instant Film For Opposite Day

Isaac Lekach :: Monday, November 16th, 2009 9:30 am

A company called Polarpremium has released a brand of instant film called “Fade To Black,” which essentially does exactly what its name implies-the exact opposite of what Polaroid film does. Instead of revealing an image from black, this film captures an image and then like the Rolling Stones, paints it black. You’ll need a Polaroid camera to try it out (not just any, details are on the site). The process can be stopped, however, and the desired image can be preserved-but you can’t just snap your fingers to make it happen. Refer to the instruction manual (available for download on here) for complete instructions (it’s complicated). Do snoop around on the site and decide if you want to be the cool kid with the cool toy at school or if you’d rather just stick to taking photos with your iPhone. But remember… art is only pretentious if you really believe in it.
