Lion’s Mane Jellyfish Stings 150 From The Grave, Whale Body Slams Boat — Are The Oceans Getting Revenge? (VIDEOS)
Travis Walter Donovan :: Thursday, July 22nd, 2010 6:36 pm
At a state park beach in New Hampshire, a 13-foot-long, 50-pound jellyfish stung 150 people. If that isn’t crazy enough, the menacing jelly-villain executed its evil plan while already dead.
In another part of the world, a whale with an extreme distaste for khaki pants and fancy cocktails belly-flopped onto a yacht. Apparently, you should never deny a cetacean membership in your prestigious boating club.
Are these mere fortuitous events? Or is this the beginning of something much bigger? Are the oceans, fed up with oil spills, overfishing and plastic pollution, fighting back!? MORE »

AR.Drone: $300 Spy Chopper Flies From iPhone Or iPad (VIDEO)
Travis Walter Donovan :: Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 9:10 pm
Available in September, Parrot’s AR.Drone is a wifi quadricopter equipped with two cameras that can be controlled from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Now you, too, can terrorize innocent civilians with a predator drone, just like your government.
The $300 device is paving the way in “augmented reality” video games, as interfaces will overlay the display screen, allowing pilots to virtually blast digital enemies, or even combat other AR.Drones, while flying in real physical spaces. MORE »

Larry Hagman On LSD: ‘All Our Politicians Should Do It,’ Says ‘I Dream Of Jeannie’/'Dallas’ Actor (VIDEOS)
Travis Walter Donovan :: Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 7:00 pm
78-year-old actor Larry Hagman is on a roll lately.
He recently hit headlines for reprising his notorious oil baron character from the 80s show “Dallas,” J.R. Ewing, as a reformed energy pioneer eulogizing renewable resources with the mock-mantra, “Shine, Baby, Shine,” in a new commercial for SolarWorld. Now Hagman lights up CNN with laughter when he talks to Joy Behar about LSD, which he was first introduced to by folk-rock staple David Crosby of Crosby, Stills & Nash. MORE »

No One’s Gonna Love Cee-Lo’s Cover Video
Gray Hurlburt :: Thursday, July 1st, 2010 6:30 pm
In homage to arguably Band of Horses’ greatest song, “No One’s Gonna Love You,” the Gnarls Barkley tenor Cee-Lo has gone and electro-fied the acoustic track for people who like it when that happens.
The product is even more lethargic than the original—which was already a slumber land favorite—and gives you the feeling of bearing through a drawn-out yawn onboard the Millenium Falcon in hyperspace. If that isn’t enough to get you all jazzed up for an experience, the video for the cover has landed online, and it’s the most dispiriting montage of canned American romance ever brought about by any medium ever and forever and ever. M.I.A.: “Justin Bieber Is More Offensive Than Me!”
Colm McAuliffe :: Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 11:45 am
M.I.A. has proved herself to be somewhat of a trailblazer as it seems somebody is finally taking the ginger menace seriously. The controversy which has erupted over her Born Free video has seen support for the ginger minority spring up unannounced from all quarters but in an interview with NME, M.I.A. refuses to take the credit for her pioneering stance. The singer coyishly maintains that she was baffled as to why people were interested in understanding the meaning of the clip, refusing to reveal her motivations behind it.
“I find the new Justin Bieber video more violent and more of an assault to my eyes and senses than what I’ve made,” she joked. For the uninitiated, the clip is directed by Romain Gavras and features everything you could possibly wish for in life: nudity, graphic violence and a plot where ginger adolescents are rounded up into an armour-protected van, driven to the country and either shot or made to run through a minefield.
M.I.A. also declared “it baffles me that everyone seems to be obsessed with deciphering the meaning to it. It baffles me in the same way as the Brick Lane riot for American Apparel leggings baffled me. We don’t know what the process is for this one is yet. I haven’t thought about it yet and I don’t want to have to.”

Robot Jams With Human Musicians
Amy Laviero :: Friday, April 30th, 2010 4:00 pm
Maybe he’s not as cute as WALL-E, but Shimon is still pretty adorable and he can jam pretty well! Not only can Shimon play the marimba, he can improvise based on what other musicians around him are playing. Developed by Ryan Nikolaidis, a PhD student at the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology, the robot uses complex algorithms to analyze the beat, tempo, and chord progressions of the music being played. From there, Shimon can create something that will enhance or compliment the music. He even acknowledges people around him, taking subtle cues from other musicians about their solos. Clips From Pavement’s First Reunion Show
Nick Nicoludis :: Friday, April 9th, 2010 5:00 pm
Pavement have begun their whirlwind reunion tour of the world, and some footage from their first show in Auckland New Zealand has surfaced. They sound the same as they did back on their old albums, and since I’ve never seen them live I have to assume they are putting out all the same energy they did when they were touring in the ’90s. Their excitement is palpable in their performance, and even though it is just a video you can still tell they are giving 110% at their shows. I mean they’ve sold out arenas across the globe for months to come, how can they not be pumped? I know I can’t wait to see them this September when they wrap up their tour in NYC, and watching this footage is only getting me more and more excited. Jump to see the videos. MORE »

The Morning Benders Give The Most Beautiful Yours Truly Performance Ever
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 1:25 pm
I can’t stress enough that this elaborate, symphonic version of “Excuses,” the first track off of the recent Morning Benders album Big Echo, is essential listening. It’s one of the most impressively coordinated performances I’ve ever seen. Instead of minimizing your browser, make sure you actually watch the musicians at work in order to see what I mean. Also, a stray observation: Is it just me, or does the lead singer look like the bizarre love-child of Thom Yorke and a Spanish society woman? I’m strangely into his frog prince aesthetic.

OMG, LADY GAGA IS ACTUALLY A MAN!
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, March 12th, 2010 3:30 pm
Or, you know, she isn’t, but I doubt that even recent photographic proof of this fact, as well as a shot of her vagina in her new, incomparably great video for “Telephone,” will squelch the incessant chatter about Lady Gaga’s fictional dick-tional. I think it’s kind of annoying that she constantly takes pains to poke fun at the rumors, like when she posed with a strap-on in her pants for Q Magazine, but that feeling doesn’t even come close to how irritating it must be for her as their subject. Now that we’ve been given the chance to thoroughly inspect Gaga’s anatomy, let’s move the rabid examination from what’s inside her panties to the video on the whole - all nine and a half minutes of it. Girls Night Out!
Danielle Johnsen :: Friday, February 19th, 2010 1:05 pm
As a recently engaged lady, the third most popular question from my friends, after when is the wedding and how did he propose, is what are we doing for the bachelorette party? Not quite the clubbing type, I would prefer just an all out fun fest with some great friends, accompanied with booze, food and will most likely get stuck carrying around a penis straw for part of the festivities. So I love the latest video from the folks over at Serious Lunch, an improv and sketch comedy troupe from Brooklyn. It stars a handful of funny ladies, including Emmy nominated Hope Davis and Ellie Kemper from “The Office”, enjoying their Ladies Night with a few drinks and a lot of screams. Poking fun at ridiculous rituals like this is exactly what the internet is for! So check out the video after the jump and please watch the entire thing or you might miss a hilarious Zach Braff-themed pop culture reference. MORE »

St. Vincent Goes the Comedic Route in New Video
Shannon Hassett :: Thursday, February 4th, 2010 2:40 pm
Annie Clark, the singer better known as St. Vincent, released a clip via her Myspace of the new video for “Laughing With a Mouth of Blood” (off her latest effort Actor). The video features the comedic stylings of thunderAnt, a duo composed of SNL’s Fred Armisen and former Sleater-Kinney badass Carrie Brownstein. The pair play bookstore owners who host an in-store for the singer, themselves… and, well, you’ll see. Check out the clip here.
