Louis CK Returns to TV With “Louie”
Danielle Johnsen :: Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 11:31 am
Last year I turned to this site to offer an apology to the brash comedian and now I’m here promoting his new TV series “Louie“, which premiered last night on FX. Since no one from FX‘s marketing department were nice enough to send me screeners, I caught the show last night and the critics were right - its fantastic. MORE »

Are You Still Not Watching “Party Down”?
Danielle Johnsen :: Friday, June 25th, 2010 5:31 pm
Sadly the answer is probably is probably yes - that you have better things to do on a Friday night than watch one of the funniest shows on television. And while Im sure that’s somewhat true, thanks to the internet, DVR and Netflix it’s not too late to get into “Party Down“. The critically acclaimed sitcom, which focuses officially wraps its second season tonight at 10PM.
As previously reported, tonight marks the triumphant return of Jane Lynch to the show, which has held up nicely this season despite her lame but likely profitable choice to leave Party Down for Glee. Continue reading for a preview of tonight’s episode.

Conan Celebrates YouTube’s 5th Birthday
Carmel Lobello :: Monday, May 17th, 2010 11:01 pm
YouTube, my 2nd most important procrastination-device (over-checking my email still has 1st place) is turning 5 this week, and in celebration they’ve asked Conan O’Brien to share with us his top 5 all-time favorite videos. At only 5-years-old, The Tube can claim 2 billion uniques per day, not to mention 24 hours of new video uploaded every minute. When I was five I was learning to tie my shoe in exchange for a banana. So, in humble appreciation, MORE »

Keeping It Classy with Conan O’Brien
Danielle Johnsen :: Monday, May 3rd, 2010 1:15 pm
One word comes to mind when I think of Conan O’Brien after the late night debacle and that’s classy. While the one-time employee of NBC had to sign a non-defamatory agreement when he left NBC this year, I would assume his discussion about his previous employers and Jay Leno would remain respectful even if he hadn’t. O’Brien sat down with Steve Kroft for an exclusive ‘exit interview’ for “60 Minutes“, which aired this past Sunday just a day after the contractual TV gag order put on O’Brien by NBC had come to an end. The Abomination That Is “Right To Laugh” From Kelsey Grammer’s Right Network
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, April 23rd, 2010 6:10 pm
My pal Nicodemus did a really thorough send-up of Kelsey Grammer’s boring Republican pet project, The Right Network. In it, he brought to my attention what must be one of the worst things to ever try and pass itself off as comedy. The upcoming program “Right to Laugh” will soon debut on the so-called “network,” which is online-based. It bills itself as comedy from “both sides of the aisle,” but as Nicodemus pointed out, “This show is neither funny, nor does it give perspectives from ‘both sides of the aisle’…unless that aisle runs between a Baptist Church and the RNC headquarters.” As you can imagine, it’s horrifyingly bad, as well as funny in every way except the ones the creators intended it to be. Take a look if you have a high tolerance for painfully bad jokes. MORE »

David Cross: Cross on Being Cross
Johnny Sanford :: Thursday, April 8th, 2010 1:00 pm
Yesterday, David Cross did an in-store appearance at the SOHO Apple Store. I didn’t expect it to be a comedy show, but what I did expect was for it to be funny. And funny it was. Cross squashed the rumor of an Arrested Development film (It’s too late!), discussed his origins as a stand-up comic, hinted at a possible Mr. Show Reunion, talked about his new UK television show Todd Margaret and his upcoming CD/DVD Bigger and Blackerer due out May 25th. Danielle Johnsen :: Wednesday, April 7th, 2010 5:42 pm
Great Job! Adult Swim has managed to score Academy Award nominated John C. Reilly full-time. Well, as much as 10 minute comedy program can dictate full time. The skilled contributor to the acid heavy “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” will finally get his own spin-off, “Check it Out with Dr. Steve Brule”. MORE »

Unstuffed And Unstrung: Muppets Without Rules
Johnny Sanford :: Thursday, April 1st, 2010 4:30 pm
Friday night at Union Square Theater was a crowded house. We didn’t know exactly what to expect, but we knew it would be absurd. The idea that Muppets might swear, masturbate, and even have a fondness towards “glory holes” might seem a bit disturbing at first, but it certainly found me in stitches. Improv comedy is hard enough to get an audience laughing, and this cast does it to raunchy perfection with puppets above their heads.Stuffed And Unstrung has it’s official opening tonight at Union Square Theater at 9pm. Hollywood, Are You Trying to Kill Goldie Hawn?
Danielle Johnsen :: Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 1:18 pm
Seriously, Hollywood why are you trying to remake all of Goldie Hawn’s classic movies? Last week, it was announced that J.Lo will stink up star in an updated version of the 1980′s classic Overboard. And now it seems that wasn’t enough, as today it was announced that NewLine/Warner Bros. are set to remake of Private Benjamin, with Anna Faris to star. Yes, the assault on my lovely childhood continues, but at least this time the casting is perfect. While normally I would threaten an all out attack on Hollywood for the audacity to even attempt to remake such a classic, my love of all things Faris is calming my anger and peaking my interest in a remake. Adsit and Gausas: The UCB Honeymooners
Johnny Sanford :: Thursday, March 25th, 2010 1:00 pm
It’s no surprise to see a line half-a-block long at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater on any given night. The theater offers up $5 tickets to some of the best improv comedy in New York City. After waiting in line last night, I got the chance to see Adsit and Gausas, a duo that hones the edge of gender roles. They put on an hour long show, confronting what it means to be a man or woman in this day and age. Sexting, Hulk Hogan and Minnie Mouse were just a few of the lambasted subjects of last night’s show. Aziz Ansari Announces New Tour!
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 3:15 pm
The man who is Raaaaaaaandy is returning to the stage, and I couldn’t be more excited. He announced the “Dangerously Delicious” tour on his Twitter five hours ago, and the pre-sales for ALL the shows have already sold out. I guess he really has blown up! You can buy tickets the day of the regular release on his website on 3/20. He’ll be debuting all-new material at the shows, and I’m itching to get tickets. Oh, and he’s performing at Bonnaroo, too! Here’s hoping for more Harris and Darwish jokes! MORE »

Funny or Die Presents: Ron Howard’s “Presidential Reunion”
Johnny Sanford :: Thursday, March 4th, 2010 1:30 pm
A few days back, I was critical of HBO’s new series “Funny Or Die.” You can read that review here. But I believe this new sketch strengthens my argument. This is the perfect example of how great web-only content can be. Ron Howard uses the sketch to hit home a serious message, and in the process he brings together some of the greatest comedians of all time. Some of the actors in the sketch include Fred Armisen, Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey, Maya Rudolph, Dana Carvey and Dan Aykroyd. To watch the video, make the jump. MORE »

Girls Night Out!
Danielle Johnsen :: Friday, February 19th, 2010 1:05 pm
As a recently engaged lady, the third most popular question from my friends, after when is the wedding and how did he propose, is what are we doing for the bachelorette party? Not quite the clubbing type, I would prefer just an all out fun fest with some great friends, accompanied with booze, food and will most likely get stuck carrying around a penis straw for part of the festivities. So I love the latest video from the folks over at Serious Lunch, an improv and sketch comedy troupe from Brooklyn. It stars a handful of funny ladies, including Emmy nominated Hope Davis and Ellie Kemper from “The Office”, enjoying their Ladies Night with a few drinks and a lot of screams. Poking fun at ridiculous rituals like this is exactly what the internet is for! So check out the video after the jump and please watch the entire thing or you might miss a hilarious Zach Braff-themed pop culture reference. MORE »
