Elisabeth Dickson :: Thursday, July 1st, 2010 5:50 pm
Judd Apatow, director/producer of Knocked Up and Superbad, has just confirmed that he is developing a new Pee-Wee Herman film project, with a screenplay written by creator Paul Reubens and Semi-Pro screenwriter Paul Rust. Apatow, who signed onto the project after seeing Reubens perform as Pee-Wee in a one-man show last winter, told Daily Variety, “Let’s face it - the world needs more Pee-Wee Herman. It’s so great to watch him return with such relevance.” MORE »

Bret Michaels and Miley Cyrus Are A Match Made in Blinged-Out Cowboy Hat Heaven
Elisabeth Dickson :: Thursday, June 17th, 2010 4:45 pm
Tomorrow morning, the hair extensions will flow freely and the spray tan fumes will linger in a studio midtown, where Bret Michaels and Miley Cyrus will perform a duet live on “Good Morning America”. Not since David Bowie and Bing Crosby gathered around a piano to belt out their cover of “Little Drummer Boy” has there been a pairing of such seemingly disparate entertainers, culminating in a showdown so epic that it will render news anchor Bianna Golodryga’s name un-ridiculous.

Golden Girls: Five Elderly Singers Who Deserve The Betty White Treatment
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 3:30 pm
Betty White has become a Golden Girl in more than one sense of the word, which is to say that her recent career relaunch has confirmed her status as America’s most beloved octogenarian. She gets tons of press, she has a new television show, Hot in Cleveland, debuting this month, and she has been quoted as wanting to get down and dirty with Robert Redford. Basically, she’s untouchable. People fall all over themselves to celebrate her lengthy and accomplished acting career, and rightly so. But what about the ancient musicians of the world? Don’t they deserve some recognition, or at least, a few Facebook campaigns? Below, a list of the elderly songbirds we’d like to see get the Betty White treatment. MORE »

Tom Cruise: A How-To Guide on Accepting Being Crazy with Class
Matt Kiebus :: Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 6:45 pm
He was Maverick, fucked a prostitute, completed impossible missions, and mixed drinks with expert precision. He also jumped up and down on a couch like a man possessed and almost challenged Matt Lauer to a steel caged death match. Tom Cruise has been on quite the journey the past five years going from the most bankable star in Hollywood to an unstable maniac. It’s been an interesting change of events. But over the past couple years Cruise figured out how to stop his career from spiraling out of control: embrace being crazy. MORE »

The Pirate Bay Is Back!
Nick Nicoludis :: Thursday, May 20th, 2010 2:15 pm
About a year ago, operators for one of the best torrent-sharing websites, The Pirate Bay, were found guilty of copyright violations and were forced to pay 30-million kronor ($3.65 million) to various entertainment industry people. The site was shut down on Monday, which led to rumors of the site being shut down permanently. But, there’s no need to worry because the site is running again with a little help from a Swedish bandwidth provider. Now you can download all the (International) Noise Conspiracy and Peter Bjorn and John you want! MORE »

Keeping It Classy with Conan O’Brien
Danielle Johnsen :: Monday, May 3rd, 2010 1:15 pm
One word comes to mind when I think of Conan O’Brien after the late night debacle and that’s classy. While the one-time employee of NBC had to sign a non-defamatory agreement when he left NBC this year, I would assume his discussion about his previous employers and Jay Leno would remain respectful even if he hadn’t. O’Brien sat down with Steve Kroft for an exclusive ‘exit interview’ for “60 Minutes“, which aired this past Sunday just a day after the contractual TV gag order put on O’Brien by NBC had come to an end. Listen to Blur’s New Single
Colm McAuliffe :: Monday, April 19th, 2010 12:30 pm
One-time Britpop heroes have recorded their first new material since their Think Tank album in 2003. Released as part of last weekend’s Record Store Day shindig, “Fool’s Day” is a short, scratchy effort reminscent of the band’s efforts circa their 1997 eponymous release. Coming off like Madness crossed with Wire, Damon Albarn - aka the Jamie Oliver of pop - appears to have reignited his faux-Cockney accent while the return of guitar maestro Graham Coxon to the fold certainly improves matters with his weaving guitar lines sneaking in and out throughout. On first listen, it’s nice if unremarkable. What’s your take on it?

8. Get Your Ass to Vancouver!
This week, Conan took the stage for his “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour,” to do some pretty crazy, edgier stand-up. Now that he’s safely landed back on TBS in November, we can finally move on, right?
Not so much. In this fan-shot video, Conan goes over the steps above to land some punches on the powers-that-be and talks about his recent bout of unemployment. MORE »

Godspeed You! Black Emperor Return
Nick Nicoludis :: Friday, April 9th, 2010 2:15 pm
One of my favorite lines from the arguably boring and underwhelming movie Pineapple Express is when Seth Rogen tells his girlfriend she’ll go off to college and get really into Godspeed You! Black Emperor and turn into a lesbian. That has no relation to the fact the the seminal college post rockers are reuniting (kind of, I didn’t know they had broken up) and are playing a slew of shows across England as a part of the ATP Nightmare Before Christmas Festival, Europe and the US. All the news was delivered via GY!BE’s website in a cryptic and artsy press release. MORE »

Betty White Is Hollywood’s New It Girl?
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 3:45 pm
As the world’s biggest Golden Girls fan, I’m thrilled by America’s sudden, unexpected obsession with Betty White, who played the lovable airhead of the bunch, Rose. I have to say, it’s not that it’s undeserved, but I’m startled by the recent surge of affection that has re-ignited the career of the sudden media darling. Below, a study in the re-emergence of Betty White. MORE »

Original Sunny Day Real Estate Line-Up Releasing New Album!
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, March 12th, 2010 2:20 pm
In the ’90s, Sunny Day Real Estate was a musical staple for the wristbands-and-side-parts set. Sunny Day stood out from other bands who shared that description for a few reasons: They weren’t from New Jersey, their appeal didn’t rely heavily on whiny vocals, and, most notably, they disbanded before the release of their second album. Now, over ten years later, the original line-up is recording their third album. The urge to buy the CD and slip it into a band-button-laden messenger bag may be overwhelming for some, I’m sure. Andy Richter Spills the Beans on Leaving The Tonight Show
Johnny Sanford :: Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 2:00 pm
Andy Richter is pretty funny for being pissed off. He finally spoke publicly as the cohost of Regis and Kelly about the Leno/Conan/NBC clusterfuck. While Conan has yet to speak his mind on the subject in the media, Andy claimed that he did feel a bit of resentment for the situation that Leno created.
“Do you have any ill feelings toward NBC and Jay [Leno]? Not that you’re going to be honest . . .” asked Kelly.
“Um, yes! Yes, I do. Why wouldn’t I? NBC, definitely . . . Everybody said they were going to do something and then they didn’t. They all said years ago, ‘We’re going to do something’ and then they didn’t…he [Leno] says ‘I didn’t have any choice, they wouldn’t let me out of my contract.’ You know how multimillionaires are always being forced to do things they don’t want to do. I’ve calmed down about it.” Video of the interview after the jump. MORE »

Conan O’Brien To Take It On The Road
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, March 5th, 2010 4:20 pm
A caveat of Conan O’Brien’s exit agreement with NBC states that he’s not allowed to have a TV show for some time. Isn’t it a little outrageous that they can not only kill his show, but his TV career? He can, however, perform his material live, and it looks as though he’s preparing to do just that. MORE »

Alan Wilder Reunites With Depeche Mode
Colm McAuliffe :: Thursday, February 18th, 2010 2:25 pm
Some fifteen years after leaving the band, Depeche Mode’s erstwhile keyboardist (and perhaps most underrated member) Alan Wilder rejoined the band live on stage in London’s Royal Albert Hall last night during a special one-off concert for the Teenage Cancer Trust. You can view some of the performance (shakily) here.
