10 Things That Should Make You Proud To Be An American

Chelsea Fisher :: Friday, July 2nd, 2010 3:55 pm

The Fourth of July is upon us. The day we beat the Brits and became our own self-governed people. Those were the good days: Paul Revere, cutting down cherry trees, throwing tea into the ocean, giving small pox to innocent natives. Man, being an American was as great then as it is now. In honor of the upcoming holiday and hopefully to boost your nationalism I’ve created a short list that points out just how fucking great America is. FREEDOM! MORE »

Larry King Cancels Show After 30 Years

Chelsea Fisher :: Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 4:45 pm

Picture 1Larry King announced yesterday via twitter (I didn’t know old people even knew twitter existed) that he will be ending Larry King Live to spend time with his wife and kids. This is a pretty big deal. No I’m kidding, I don’t really care about Larry King. Though I’m pretty amazed that he has been able to host the show for thirty years even though he has been dead for, I’m guessing, twenty of them. The cancellation of this now irrelevant show led me to compile a list of other shows that should be canceled. MORE »

This is Gonna be Big

Chelsea Fisher :: Monday, June 28th, 2010 2:45 pm

“Huge,” A new show on ABC family features biggens Nikki Blonsky of “Hairspray,” and Hayley Hasselhoff, David Hasselhoff’s plus-size daughter.

The show was developed by none other than Winnie Holzman, who created “My So Called Life” the short-lived nineties drama about how hard it is to be thin, alternative, and down right good looking. “Huge” is about pretty much the exact opposite: Being overweight and well, plainly, not Jared Leto or Claire Danes. Using Oil Paint to Combat the Oil Spill

Chelsea Fisher :: Monday, June 28th, 2010 12:45 pm

Inspired by a recent Gulf Aid concert featuring Lenny Kravitz and the Preservation Hall Jazz band, local gulf coast visual artists are using the oil spill as inspiration to create pieces that will raise funds to benefit the cleanup effort. “We all are terrified, upset, anxious, and damn mad about what has transpired,” said Jonathan Ferrara, founder of Gulf Aid Art. “We have to use our creativity to speak up, comment, criticize and make our voices heard.”
Together the artists created limited edition 10-series prints that will be sold in both Ferrara’s New Orleans gallery as well as online with prices ranging from $100 to $500. The effort has the potential to raise $80,000 for relief efforts.
The funds raised will be going to gulf aid which is aimed to help fishermen and their families, as well as provide for long term efforts to protect America’s coastal wetlands. Check out the gallery.

Mississippi Oil: Muddy Waters

Chelsea Fisher :: Monday, June 28th, 2010 11:30 am

Looks like oil has made its way to the Mississippi shoreline, and governor Haley Barbour, is pissed! Barbour announced Sunday night that the amount of oil hitting the shores is quickly increasing, and he’s pleading for federal aid. This is valid, of course, but before the oil actually started threatening his lap swim, he deployed only 58 of 6,000 National Guardsmen, and claimed that the media coverage of the spill was more damaging to Mississippi than the oil itself. Blogging Behind Bars not Keeping Lil Wayne Entertained

Chelsea Fisher :: Monday, June 21st, 2010 5:30 pm

Let me refresh you: On January 22, 2008 authorities stopped Little Wayne’s tour bus at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Yuma County, Arizona where they found cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, drug paraphernalia and a .40-caliber handgun registered to the rapper. He pleaded not guilty to all of the felony charges. This was shortly after Wayne was charged for gun possession in New York. On Friday Wayne changed his Yuma plea to guilty via live feed from Rikers Island prison in New York, where he is currently serving time, to a Yuma County jury. Pleading guilty could lessen his time in jail and put him up for 36 months of probation instead. Then he’ll be able to blog from home.

Bernie Still Got Scrilla!

Chelsea Fisher :: Monday, June 21st, 2010 1:46 pm

Now that Bernie Madoff is nearing his first-year prison anniversary some of his “soap-sharing” inmates are dishing a few of his secrets. One fellow inmate at Butner’s medium-security correctional facility claimed to the New York Post that Bernie told him he dispersed about $5 billion to what his anonymous prison pal believes are “close friends” before he was charged for the most elaborate ponzi scheme of all time. Bernie is apparently making quite the mobster name for himself in his medium security prison. In last week’s New York magazine article another inmate reported overhearing him say, “Fuck my victims, I carried them for 20 years.” Considering Bernie is close to celebrating the first year of the rest of his life, he may as well start making a name for himself saying whatever the fuck he wants.

Unfortunate Name Department: Justin Bieber

Chelsea Fisher :: Friday, June 18th, 2010 12:30 pm

Unfortunately for one Philadelphia lawyer, his name is Justin Bieber.

32-year-old Bieber claims that sharing a name with a 16-year-old singing and hair sensation, is making it a little difficult to advertise his legal services. By last summer, in hopes of expanding his client base, lawyer Bieber built his own website. Soon after, he started receiving e-mails and friend requests on Facebook from tween girls claiming how much they loved him and his singing. One girl even wrote “You’re not Justin Beiber!”

At twice the pop-star’s age, (with half the amount of hair) Bieber Esq. found this a little strange. MORE »

Interpol back with Matador. YES.

Chelsea Fisher :: Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 4:30 pm

The kings of indie drone, Interpol, have decided to return to Matador records. I must say, this is really fucking good news! For those of you who experienced/survived Our Love To Admire which was released through Capitol Records deserve a good ol’ Matador fix. The switch back will hopefully bring the band back to its Turn on the Bright Lights and Antics days. New band members Brandon Curtis, from The Secret Machines, and David Pajo, who most recently performed with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on tour for It’s Blitz, will hopefully add some new juice while maintaining the gloomy success that is Interpol. Matador plans to release the new album on September 14th.
