Drake: Remix With Lil Wayne From Prison

Robin Bacior :: Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 3:30 pm

Somehow, Canadian native Aubrey Drake Graham has managed to go from new-generation Degrassi basketballer “Jimmy,” to suave rap phenomenon, cut sharply to just “Drake.” The man’s been collaborating with all the impressives, including Jay-Z, Kanye West, Eminem, and especially with Lil Wayne, who’s taken Drake on somewhat as his protege. Smart move, since his popularity grows exponentially, daily.
His new record, Thank Me Later, was released today, along with a remix from his myriad of jams, this one specifically being, “Lighten Up.” It’s being called the “Rikers Remix,” cutely titled from the fact that Lil Wayne adds a verse via telephone from the Rikers Prison. You maybe be able to cage Lil Wayne, but you’ll never be able to quiet him.

Check out a couple songs and see how you feel about Drake’s new release.

Weezy’s Prison Blog Up and Running

Shannon Hassett :: Monday, April 5th, 2010 1:00 pm

Lil Wayne may be in prison, but his website is certainly making up for any loss of luxury. Weezy Thanx You comes complete with a countdown to his release, a liltunechie twitter feed and best of all, the address to which fans can send their letters for the rapper while he serves out his sentence.

The site’s main attraction is undoubtedly Weezy’s blog entries, the first of which was posted on Friday. In a departure from his tweets, the post featured mostly accurate grammar, and the sappy wisdom Wayne tried to impart in 140 characters digs a lot deeper in the context of a letter, especially one coming from a man behind bars; I’ve never known anyone in prison, and after reading his words, I couldn’t help but feel just a twinge of familial sympathy. Lil Wayne: Jailed in NYC, Wanted in AZ

Amy Laviero :: Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 3:45 pm

Oh the irony. This morning, an Arizona judge issued a warrant for the arrest of Lil Wayne after he missed a court-date stemming from a drug and weapons charge. In ‘08 the rapper was arrested when boarder patrol officials found ecstasy, cocaine and naturally, a few handguns in his tour bus.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably aware that Lil Wayne, aka Dwayne Carter, is already serving a year-long sentence in NYC’s Rikers Island for a separate weapons charge and therefore, was unable to attend today’s pretrial conference in Arizona. Nevertheless, his bail has been upped to $150,000 and he can now add another warrant to the list.

Although he is currently serving a year-long sentence, it is suspected that Carter will be released in about eight months.

Lil’ Wayne Is a Figment of Our Imaginations

Matt Kiebus :: Friday, March 5th, 2010 3:15 pm

Rappers live a life of excess and indulgence. The result is a lifestyle that commoners like you and me will never understand. Sure, they love to party, drink, and smoke weed, which are all very relatable to many people. However it isn’t relatable when they party on yachts bigger than my middle school, drink thousand dollar bottles of champagne like it’s Juicy Juice, and spend more money on weed in a year than I did on my entire college education. RIP Lil Wayne’s Twitter

Shannon Hassett :: Thursday, February 25th, 2010 3:00 pm

For those without a Twitter, there are three important things to know about the site. The first is the meaning of a hashtag, which is any word that appears with a number sign before it (for example, #thisisahashtag). Hashtags were developed to create groupings on Twitter, meaning your tweet will automatically be linked to anyone else using the same hashtag by clicking on the tag. A list of the most popular hashtags, also called trending topics, is constantly updated within your profile, so things like #musicmonday and #nowplaying become very popular. Your second essential Twitter fact is the recent addition of @liltunechi, better known to the world as Lil Wayne. And the third, and perhaps most essential fact, is that @liltunechi is not here to fuck around. MORE »

‘We Are The World…II’

Nick Nicoludis :: Thursday, February 11th, 2010 2:05 am

We can all remember (well not me personally cause I was still ‘in the works’ as far as being conceived/born) the 1985 hit ‘We Are The World’ that aimed to help help starving Africans. It was the 80’s and as we all know from movies and what are weird uncles tell us, times were great in the US but pretty crummy in other corners of the world. So a super-group formed that would rival The Justice League and The Super Friends combined. Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson wrote the original tune and scores of musicians chipped in their musical abilities to create one of the catchiest benefit songs to ever come out. Naturally, because we live in an age of recycled ideas, the ’stars’ decided to revamp the 25-year-old classic by adding a million more celebs/musicians/rappers and throwing in a few more interesting twists. Weezy Bails on Jail Until March

Shannon Hassett :: Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 12:15 pm

Considering the year-long imprisonment of Lil Wayne will effect our generation more profoundly than any other news item until his release, it is necessary to inform you that his start date has been postponed. For dental surgery. Yes, the scions at MTV released word yesterday that Weezy’s attorney submitted a request (which was later approved) for the rapper to get a cracked tooth corrected by his personal dentist, who would provide better treatment than the facilities at Rikers. The surgery is set for February 12th in Miami, pushing his imprisonment to March 2nd. The extra few weeks are sure to provide fans with even more new material to be released during his time at Rikers, a wealth of which Weezy already scrambled to finish before yesterday’s scheduled sentencing. And in case you missed it, a poignant farewell video was released on the Upstream page of Young Money member Lil Twist, found here. I laughed, I cried — a seriously more worthy production than nine of those best picture noms.

Shit Going On In The World

Does Your Gun Own You, Mr. Carter?

Simon Rich :: Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 4:25 pm

Lil’ Wayne is set for a 12 month prison sentence starting today, February 9, 2010, stemming from a guilty plea to felony gun possession charges in 2007.

On January 14, 2010 Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was charged with carrying a pistol without a license. This stems from a December 21, 2009 account in which Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton both had unloaded firearms stored in the team locker room. Both players are suspended for the remainder of the NBA season while Arenas’ hearing is scheduled for March 26th. MORE »
