No Age Announces Feb. 7th Secret Benefit Show in LA
Nick Nicoludis :: Thursday, February 4th, 2010 4:05 pm
According to a post on No Age’s blog, they are planning a secret location show somewhere in the Los Angeles area on February 7th at 12 pm. But this isn’t your ordinary secret show, it is a benefit concert. For what you might ask? Cancer. The flier for the event says that it is “a benefit for our friend’s mom” who apparently has cancer. From the looks of it, this seems like it’s going to be a blow out event full of the pretension of seeing a secret show that includes great music, food and drinks, while supporting a good cause. Ambush of New Album Announcements
Shannon Hassett :: Friday, January 29th, 2010 1:00 pm
It may have been a slow week with regard to news (unless you’re the sort that found the State of the Union entertaining), but as for music, there were enough new album announcements to tide us over for a year. The artists themselves seemed to be just as excited about the prospects, with a slew of sources publishing interviews and information on the upcoming releases. For your (anticipated) listening pleasure, a summary of the week’s heavier hitters. MORE »

Cyber Sex. Sub Pop. What More Could A Girl Want?
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 5:45 pm
Sub Pop’s laying claim to some great bands lately. They show this off sufficiently in their new Cybersex 2.0 Sampler. Heralded by a ton of shitty .gifs and (gulp) Comic Sans MS, they provide downloads of this and the Cybersex 1.0 Sampler here. How perfect is that “rock band” one? Um, I guess that’s what I picture in my head when I listen to The Ruby Suns… MORE »

Help Save the Jelly NYC Pool Parties
Stephen Blackwell :: Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 3:30 pm
The Jelly NYC Pool Parties are in danger of being shut down. Aside from being a staple of hipsterdom and summertime in New York, they’re some of the greatest concerts the city has to offer.
Apparently this summer the New York State Parks Department has other plans for the East River State Park where the concerts are held. For what it’s worth, Chuck Schumer has our back. If you call him and write to him, he’ll continue relaying the message to the NYSPD in hopes that the Pool Parties will return for 5th year. More details after the jump. MORE »

No Age: Rain Man
Stephen Blackwell :: Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 2:45 pm
In January of 2008, five months before the release of Nouns, I visited No Age in Los Angeles to interview them for the cover of this magazine. I could hear Dean Spunt bashing away on the drums as I rode the freight elevator up to their practice space, a tiny room nestled in the corner of a large warehouse that was built in a part of town epitomizing the other side of the tracks—twenty feet from them, actually. After our introductions the conversation jumped from the salient issue of the day—Heath Ledger had been found dead a few hours before our interview—to punk music, their band, and what exactly these young men made of the buzz circling No Age like a great white.
