5 Up and Comers to Check Out at Lollapalooza 2010
Stephen Blackwell :: Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 3:00 pm
The Lollapalooza 2010 lineup has been announced, and although it’s flooded with gigantic acts like Green Day (who Perry Farrell didn’t want on the 1994 Lollapalooza because he thought they were “put together” by Warner Bros), The Strokes, and Lady Gaga, as well as indie mainstays Phoenix, Grizzly Bear, and The National, let’s not forget the little guys, shall we? Here are 5 Up and Comers worth checking out, granted you can get up early enough to see them.
Javelin (Fri @ 11:30am)
I know, I know — more electro dance pop. Great. But Javelin are really good. Similar to Tanlines, but not as good as DeLorean.
Warpaint (Sat @ 12:15pm)
Psychedelic folk rock that is in no way as jarring as some of their peers. Might be tough to get into it that early in the afternoon. You’ll need a beer.
The Antlers (Sun @ 12:15pm)
The Antlers are in the middle of a strong year, showcasing their swirly, lumbering pop all over the country opening for The National. Not to be missed.
The Soft Pack (Sat @ 12:30pm)
Loud, fun, non-idiotic garage rock with a reasonable sense of melody and a great vibe. 12:30 is wee bit early for these guys, though.
Foxy Shazam (Fri @ 12:00pm)
Once you get past the schlocky outfits and haircuts, they play some powerful, catchy rock worthy of the glam crown the band’s currently wearing.
