Q&A with Seabear

Elissa Suh :: Thursday, February 18th, 2010 12:00 pm

Hailing from Iceland, Seabear isn’t just another failed imitation of the more famous bands from the not-so-icy nation. In 2007 the band released the full length album The Ghost That Carried Us Away, containing songs with a dream-like simplicity, agreeable with the majority of listeners. AND the songs are in English.  Seabear frontman Sindri Mar Sigfusson took some time to talk about his comparisons to Beck, Gossip Girl, and of course the new album.

Lil Wayne to Voice Cartoon Jesus

Elissa Suh :: Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 5:05 pm

According to Ozone magazine, Lil Wayne will voice a cartoon Jesus and perform in a video called “Ghetto Commandments” on the new Adultswim special called Freakniks. Check out the site (where photos of T-Pain in blue Santa garb are graced by strippers, a classic staple for any Christmas party) for more details. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but voicing the Lord won’t get you out of jail, Weezy, but you sure can try. After all, you weren’t too bad in The Boondocks. (Click through.)

Alice In Wonderland Soundtrack: Fall Out Boy, Blink 182, and More

Elissa Suh :: Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 4:00 pm

Almost Alice is concrete evidence for those Tim Buton fans, steadily waning in number, that his upcoming version of the classic children’s tale (saturated with color and not so subtle hallucinogenic effects) has been metamorphosed into the junior high school goth’s wetdream, or far worse, since even those outcasts know better than to listen to 3OH!3

Tim Burton’s absurd decision to release a soundtrack for the upcoming Alice in Wonderland could be indication of the deterioration of Danny Elfman (unlikely), or the success of New Moon (regrettably). Following the trend, Burton has compiled songs, new and old by mainstream bands from a certain music scene. Click through for the movie’s full soundtrack listing, released exclusively by myspace.

Leading the pack is Avril Lavigne, who apparently still makes music. Almost Alice features names like the [semi] new Owl City, as well as some [fortunately] forgotten ones like Metro Station, and that band who won’t be singing about Delilah for once.  Buried in the mess of  Robert Smith(The Cure), The soundtrack’s highlight will undoubtedly be the Matt Hoppus and Pete Wentz collaboration…  At least New Moon had Bon Iver.

Vampire Weekend’s Sophomore Album Contra Out Today

Colm McAuliffe :: Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 1:20 pm

Are Vampire Weekend the most loathed band in recent history? Since the success of their 2008 eponymous debut, the band have been derided for the archness of their lyrics, their apparent ‘comfortable’ upbringings, and for being entirely responsible for all the world’s current ills.

Michael Cera’s Turn as a Bad Boy: Drug Tripping in the New Islands’ Video

Elissa Suh :: Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 12:30 pm

Okay, everyone’s tired of Michael Cera playing himself, but at least he’s trying something new, purposely crashing cars, wanted for arson and whatnot. In the end, it’s just Michael Cera playing “Michael Cera trying to be a badboy.” What’s next for young Cera? Drugs of course. See him trip in “No You Don’t” the new Islands video, compliments of Pitchfork.tv or click after the break. Even the haters will be pleased.

Surfer Blood Announces U.S. Tour

Elissa Suh :: Monday, January 4th, 2010 4:55 pm

Let’s take a second to forget how fucking frigid it is outside and reminisce about the warmer times in the usual method, that is by way of songs that are preferably not “Lust for Life” by Girls. Instead listen to Swim (To Reach the End) if you haven’t already, by Surfer Blood. Praise has been steadily building by word of mouth (or blog) for the Florida based band and we’re continuing the trend. Debut album Astro Coast comes out January 19. Tour dates after the jump.

It’s probably old news to many that Radiohead is working on a new record. Check out Rolling Stone to see what guitarist Ed O’Brien has to say about the end of a decade, the new album, and bandmate Thom Yorke, who will be featured on the soundtrack to a documentary about Tibet. We’re only somewhat surprised.

Interview: Harold Ramis

Drew Fortune :: Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 11:00 am

Yep, that’s Egon. If you don’t know already, Harold Ramis is one of the titans of comedy. He’s the man behind Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, Vacation, and and the list goes on.

D+T contributing writer Drew Fortune was one of the lucky attendees at last week’s 50th Anniversary gala celebration of Second City, the Chicago institution that brought us everyone from Ramis and Bill Murray to Steve Carell and Eugene Levy. He was tenacious enough to badger Ramis into an exclusive interview for D+T.

Follow the jump for Fortune’s reportage from Second City and his interview with Harold Ramis.
