Looking For Some Fun This Weekend? Look No Further!

Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, February 19th, 2010 5:45 pm

Common logic goes that there’s no reason to ever get bored in New York City, especially not on a weekend, and I think this is one of those cases where I’m inclined to agree.  If you’re not sure what you’re getting up to, here are some promising shows taking place tonight and tomorrow.

Music Video: Das Racist “Rainbow In The Dark”

Isaac Lekach :: Monday, December 21st, 2009 9:00 am

Even though the song starts with a reference to White Castle, the Brooklyn duo prove they can do more than just rap about combination fast food joints on “Rainbow In The Dark.” Peep the video here. It’s mostly SFW… though you do get a glimpse of some pubic hair courtesy of Victor Vazquez.

Das Racist Review Thao’s Know Better Learn Faster

Stephen Blackwell :: Thursday, October 22nd, 2009 12:00 pm

Thao | Know Better Learn Faster | Kill Rock Stars

Himanshu Suri: Way to have a great voice Thao Nguyen. This is hand clapping melodic folk unabashed guitar fun with no frills. There’s no psych rock or lo-fi sound of internet fickle fandom shtick either. Yo, remember last night you said you wanted to play hell of shows in barns? This would be sick to see in a barn. A real hootenanny. MORE »

Das Racist Review Wildbirds and Peacedrums’ The Snake

Stephen Blackwell :: Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 6:00 pm

Wildbirds and Peacedrums | The Snake | Control Group

Victor Vazquez: The name is questionable and so are some of the lyrics, but they’re from another country so I guess that gives them a pass. This shit is really pretty.  Reminds of Björk, Kate Bush, Minnie Ripperton, Flora Purim. I know that every time there’s a weird lady singing, people always compare her to Björk (like Joanna Newsom, which I think makes some sense), or Kate Bush (like Florence and the Machine, which makes a little less sense), but I think this might warrant those comparisons a bit more? I don’t know. I dig it a lot though, it stays interesting. MORE »

Das Racist Review Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3

Stephen Blackwell :: Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 4:30 pm

Jay-Z  | The Blueprint 3 | Roc Nation

Himanshu Suri: In this short-attention span, micro-blogging Twitter world the three-step trajectory goes: Album leak, Twitter go buck, opinions made. It’s a shame that I hated this album before I heard it. Then I heard “Empire State of Mind” slowly grow into an anthem on the NY radio and began to perk up at the mention of that McDonalds uptown near City College and freaked out imagining what Bjork would sound like on it instead of Alicia.
