Devo Throw A Cat Listening Party

Colin Jones :: Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 4:45 pm

Devo released their first record in twenty years, Something For Everybody, today and they’re bringing some cool cats along with them. And by cats, I literally mean felines.

Today, until 8 pm, Devo are streaming their entire album online to a group of cats in a room on Ustream. That’s right — a cat listening party. How unique. Watch them play with string, be cute and get down to Devo. But besides the cat party, Devo has a busy week. Tonight the group heads to Letterman, tomorrow they’re on The Colbert Report and Friday they will perform on Regis and Kelly Live.

If you want to stream the album sans cats head over to Colbertnation.com

Scientists Working To Explain Why Ozzy Osbourne Is Still Alive

Colin Jones :: Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 2:15 pm

Long-time partier and all around oddball Ozzy Osbourne is officially a science experiment.

According to CBS News, scientists with a genomics company are studying Ozzy to find out why he is still alive after years of substance abuse.

Osbourne, who was fired from Black Sabbath in 1971 due to his hard-partying ways, previously said he hoped to leave his body to science. He claims he’s a “medical miracle” for still living after what he calls a “40-year bender” where he would drink four bottles of cognac a day. MORE »

The Flaming Lips Go All NSFW, Again.

Colin Jones :: Monday, June 14th, 2010 2:15 pm

The Flaming Lips aren’t really known for their subtlety when it comes to music videos. The Oklahoma psych masters tend to go completely balls (and way too many other things) out when visualizing their songs.
With the release of their album Embryonic, the Lips have gone of the deep end. Naked bikers in the woods. Men emerging out of vagina-esque balls. Wayne Coyne being brutally stripped. Naked! Naked! Naked! And that was just one video for the song “Watching The Planets.”
Only this time we have masochism, hooded men, finger painting with blood and, of course, a monkey. Keep reading for the video which is pretty freaking NSFW. You have been warned. MORE »

Free Music Monday: Download Neutral Uke Hotel

Colin Jones :: Monday, June 14th, 2010 1:30 pm

The ukulele isn’t really known for its “coolness” in the music biz. In terms of relevant content, you essentially have Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s overplayed cover of “Over The Rainbow” and Jake Shimabukuro with his YouTube manic jams.
But now we have a little indie rock uke action from Shawn Fogel of the band Golden Bloom with his side project Neutral Uke Hotel. Fogel is covering Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over the Sea in its entirety.
He’s currently on a short tour of the North East with stops in NYC, Toronto and Bridgeport, CT. Keep reading to download “King Of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1″

The hard puritanical hand of Apple has fallen again, and this time they’re going after the classics.

Venison aka The Strokes Play First Show Since 2006 In London

Colin Jones :: Thursday, June 10th, 2010 3:15 pm

If you haven’t been privy yet to the fact that The Strokes have reunited you’re most likely living in some sort of damp hermit’s cave, high up in god-knows-where Appalachia.
In preparation for hitting the festival circuit this summer, The Strokes, under the pseudonym Venison, played a secret show—their first show since 2006—in London last night. The band will play this Saturday at the Isle of Wight and Sunday at Rockness. The show at Dingwall’s featured no new songs in the 18-song set list even though the band has apparently been working on a record since January.
