St. Vincent: The Movie

Isaac Lekach :: Wednesday, December 30th, 2009 3:30 pm

We just read that Walter Hill (48 Hours) will direct Mickey Rourke (whose character is a priest who is really a hitman) and Forest Whitaker in a film called St. Vincent, which reminded us of our favorite records of this year: Actor by Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent). Clark composed a great portion of Actor by watching old Disney films on mute and creating her own score to the films. Humor us for a second here-what if Clark were to do the same thing with Rourke’s new movie? It’s only fitting and is, after all, almost time for her to start thinking about LP no. 3. Are we wrong? Annie, have your people call their people. Thank you.

The Year in Film in Seven Minutes

Danielle Johnsen :: Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 9:41 pm

Have seven minutes? If so, please check out the beautifully crafted tribute video edited by Kees van Dijkhuizen, who compiled all of the 342 films that were released this year into a seven minute video. van Dijkhuizen created a similar project last year, but I prefer this year’s edit, from the choice of represented scenes to the background music. Check out the celebration that is Cinema 2009 after the jump. MORE »

Interview: Harold Ramis

Drew Fortune :: Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 11:00 am

Yep, that’s Egon. If you don’t know already, Harold Ramis is one of the titans of comedy. He’s the man behind Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, Vacation, and and the list goes on.

D+T contributing writer Drew Fortune was one of the lucky attendees at last week’s 50th Anniversary gala celebration of Second City, the Chicago institution that brought us everyone from Ramis and Bill Murray to Steve Carell and Eugene Levy. He was tenacious enough to badger Ramis into an exclusive interview for D+T.

Follow the jump for Fortune’s reportage from Second City and his interview with Harold Ramis.

Even though the song starts with a reference to White Castle, the Brooklyn duo prove they can do more than just rap about combination fast food joints on “Rainbow In The Dark.” Peep the video here. It’s mostly SFW… though you do get a glimpse of some pubic hair courtesy of Victor Vazquez.

Final Fantasy Changes Name

Isaac Lekach :: Friday, December 18th, 2009 2:00 pm

Remember when Puff Daddy became P. Diddy and then later dropped the “P” entirely? Or when Santogold swapped the “O” for an “I”? Well in that tradition, Final Fantasy is now Owen Pallett. Write that down. Pallett’s next album, Heartland, will be released on January 12th via Domino.

The Clientele Announce Tour

Isaac Lekach :: Friday, December 18th, 2009 1:30 pm

I heard a rumor that The Clientele were breaking up. Fortunately, they’re not showing signs of that. Peep North American dates after the jump. Bonfires On The Heath is the name of their latest album. I recommend putting that on instead of whatever x-mas album your mom has going-not because it’s a festive record, but just because it’s good and x-mas albums are not.

Nicolas Cage’s Teaser Released For Upcoming Kick-Ass Film — Message Boards None Too Pleased

Braden Rosner :: Thursday, December 17th, 2009 1:28 pm

A teaser poster was recently released for the film adaptation of the pseudo-superhero comic Kick-Ass, set for theaters in Spring 2010. The poster features none other than Nicholas “The Wicker Man” Cage looking like his usual weirdo, badass self dressed in a black leather suit, complete with cape, and yellow utility belt — a blatant Batman rip-off with slight differences (I guess the ears are filed down, kind of). More after the jump.
