Roger Ebert Gets His Voice Back
Danielle Johnsen :: Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 12:58 pm
Today, Oprah will air her highly anticipated interview with celebrated film critic and journalist Roger Ebert. The man who is synonymous with film criticism in America has become a hero to many recently thanks to his insightful film critiques, helpfulness with fellow journalists, prolific Twitter account and his Esquire profile. The magazine published a brilliant and artfully detailed profile of the man, including his battle with cancer that left him missing half his jaw and without a voice. MORE »

The Life-Size Edward Cullen/Robert Pattinson Pillow Is Freakish
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 5:55 pm
…for a few reasons.
1) Think of the demographic for this thing. It makes for a terrifying mental image.
2) As has been pointed out by the commenters on the seller’s webpage, it looks a lot more like Barry Manilow. Is he slated to play the new pouty, glittery half man/half beast who competes with the other two freaks for that girl’s affection in the next movie? Did I miss those headlines? Personally, I think Manilow could be great in the role of a brooding centaur.

Review: Patti Smith and Steven Sebring: “Objects of Life”
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, February 12th, 2010 1:15 pm
Last week, I caught the last day of the eye-popping, intricate Josh Dorman exhibit curated by the writer Paul Auster at the Mary Ryan Gallery. The pieces were so incredibly detailed that as I stood in front of them and examined each one, I still felt like I wasn’t able to see every part of each one. There was so much going on - it was almost visually exhausting, but it was the kind of exhaustion that comes with an accomplishment, like the pleasant ache of climbing a mountain or finishing something else one works hard on. Maybe I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to see anything else after being so engaged by Dorman’s artwork, but when I saw that the most recent exhibit of Patti Smith’s artwork was directly across the street at the Robert Miller Gallery, I knew I had to go. Smith is one of my favorite musicians, and up to that point, I hadn’t really seen any of her visual art, and I was interested in seeing what she had put together.

Times Like These Call for Bill Murray
Johnny Sanford :: Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 1:45 pm
He must be feeling his age, because in his latest interview Bill Murray is anything but apologetic. The man is a mystery to most, opting out of having a manager or any real connection to Hollywood except for a post office box in which he receives scripts. Rarely giving interviews and focusing mainly on helping Wes Anderson make incredible films these days, Murray took a few hours to talk candidly to Mail on Sunday in the UK. He waxes poetic on award show disappointment, the idea of quitting film, being notoriously difficult to work with, and working on Ghostbusters III. Yes, it’s been confirmed that he is in, but his casting is more than a bit unusual. MORE »

Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” Used In Dog Show Advertisement
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Friday, February 5th, 2010 4:00 pm
“Paparazzi” becomes “Pupparazzi” in this USA Network advertisement for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Frankly, I find this hysterical.

Ricky Gervais Stops the Funny Business?
Johnny Sanford :: Thursday, February 4th, 2010 12:30 pm
When I think of Ricky Gervais, I think of awkward dances, awkward glances, and most of all, hilariously awkward statements of political incorrectness that would make even Andrew Dice Clay blush. Since his career has skyrocketed even in the U.S. in recent years based on his comedic genius, you might expect the next release by Ricky Gervais in the cinematic realm to continue upon the same, well-trodden path.
But by the looks of the new trailer for Cemetery Junction, he is now in unfamiliar territory. This seems more like a trip into Wes Anderson’s realm, complete with slow motion. Take a look at the trailer after the jump. MORE »

Second Lady Gaga Comic Book To Be Released
Amy Rose Spiegel :: Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 5:55 pm
In October 2009, Marc Jacobs stores sold Lady Gaga-centric comic books for two dollars a pop. The small book was a short, witty piece that focused less on Gaga’s history and more on the Lady’s famously freaky penchant for high fashion. The illustrations, drawn by the artist Brian Enersen, were very simple and sketched in stark black lines. An upcoming comic book, titled “Fame: Lady Gaga,” is another approach to portraying the singer in pictures.
The two covers for the book, featured today on MTV News, are full-color portraits of Lady Gaga. The comic book itself is supposedly biographical. It’s slated to be released in May. Nerdy, comic-book-lovin’ pop enthusiasts, take note.

Pete Townshend Labelled “Sex Offender At Large” In Miami
Colm McAuliffe :: Friday, January 29th, 2010 12:00 pm
In the second piece of Who-related news in as many days (funny that the items have essentially nothing to do with the band’s most recent musical output), Florida’s child-abuse campaigners have sent out flyers in which they warn residents of the impending arrival of a sex offender - axe hero Pete Townshend.

Colm McAuliffe :: Friday, January 15th, 2010 3:02 pm
Smashing Pumpkins main-ego Billy Corgan is currently spending his time making beautiful music with his girlfriend, pop star Jessica Simpson. Working with producer Kelly Brown (who is also working on the Pumpkins’ upcoming release Teargarden by Kaleidyscope), the two have been collaborating in the studio, much to the chagrin of Pumpkins’ fans all over the world.

We’ll Finally Get More Hole
Danielle Johnsen :: Friday, November 13th, 2009 4:37 pm
As a forever alterna-teen, news of Courtney Love’s upcoming record is making me way too excited. The co-founder and leader of Hole, as well as twitterer and blogger extraordinaire, will release ‘Nobody’s Daughter’ next January. The album started taking shape a few years back in 2005 when Courtney was doing a court-mandated stint in rehab, originally being produced by Billy Corgan and Linda Perry. Love scrapped the work she had done with Corgan and Perry in 2007 and began working on the album at New York’s famous Electric Lady Studios with producers Marko Larkin and Michael Beinhorn. MORE »

Christopher Walken Does ‘Poker Face’
Danielle Johnsen :: Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 3:05 pm
Is there anyone else quite like Christopher Walken? Beyond just being a talented actor, the man lives for music and comedy. Walken has brought his signature style to various music videos over the years and he is the reason I can’t not think of cow bell whenever I hear ‘Don’t Fear the Reaper’, but his latest effort has had me hypnotized for days.
