Victor Vazquez: The name is questionable and so are some of the lyrics, but they’re from another country so I guess that gives them a pass. This shit is really pretty. Reminds of Björk, Kate Bush, Minnie Ripperton, Flora Purim. I know that every time there’s a weird lady singing, people always compare her to Björk (like Joanna Newsom, which I think makes some sense), or Kate Bush (like Florence and the Machine, which makes a little less sense), but I think this might warrant those comparisons a bit more? Das Racist is a Brooklyn-based rap group comprised of Queens-born rapper Himanshu Suri, San Francisco-born rapper Kool A.D. (née Victor Vazquez) and various producers including Leif, J-La, and Like Magic. They have been described as “stupid,” “smart,” “clowns,” ”geniuses,” “dumb,” “deconstructionalist,” “children,” “existential,” ”inane,” “transcendental,” “terrible,” and “brilliant.” They’ve deconstructed some “inane,” “billiant,” “transcendental,” and “terrible” records for us.
