Betty White Is Hollywood’s New It Girl?

As the world’s biggest Golden Girls fan, I’m thrilled by America’s sudden, unexpected obsession with Betty White, who played the lovable airhead of the bunch, Rose.  I have to say, it’s not that it’s undeserved, but I’m startled by the recent surge of affection that has re-ignited the career of the sudden media darling.  Below, a study in the re-emergence of Betty White.

I believe that it all started in January, when White received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actor’s Guild.  This incited a flurry of talk show appearances, public support, and one Super Bowl commercial for Snickers:

Now, it seems everyone wants a bite of White (even more so than they do the chocolate she shills).  She makes headlines weekly, inspires fanatical Facebook campaigns, and will be hosting Saturday Night Live soon.  Today, news broke that she commented on the sordid situation concerning her dear friend, Sandra Bullock to Entertainment Tonight. The accomplished actress is seriously everywhere.

It really comes down to a matter of talent and disposition, which White has in spades.  At 88 years old, she still works constantly, gives tons of interviews, and just generally rules.  Her career is a study in determination and hard work, and I know I’m sounding like her football coach with that pep-talk jargon, but it’s difficult not to feel that way when White has done so well for herself for so long.  As far as Betty White’s concerned, I’ll be the first to say “go team,” and it seems like America’s going to continue to root along with me.
