New Jersey Up In Arms Over Murder (?) Of State Trooper

This is what a part of the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey looked like earlier today after police discovered a state trooper, Scott Graham, 35, who had been shot and killed in his car.

“Although the death has not been officially categorized and is still under investigation, no suspects are being sought,” says Sgt. Stephen Jones, who is acting as the spokesman for the police force. This statement is making the cause of the officer’s death look more like a suicide or accident than a murder. Look at all the policemen in that picture! If there were a need to go searching for a suspect, I think they’d be more inclined to do something more than stand around on the parkway.

The worst part of this story is that every news account ends with some variation on the following fact: Graham is survived by a wife and three young children, which is always heartbreaking. Here’s hoping their family isn’t accosted too badly by the press, which seems likely considering that this is already a media firestorm and there aren’t even any facts to report yet.
