All Points West. Boy was it off to a terrible start. To being with, there was MCA's cancer scare. In case you've been living under a rock, the Beastie Boys had to drop off the bill because Adam Yauch found a cancerous tumor in his parotid gland--evidently he's well on the road to recovery now. Jay-Z performed in their stead. Many have called him the greatest rapper of all times (no offense Kanye) ...and while his performance was definitely a highlight, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't bitter sweet. Then again, maybe I just have a soft spot for Jewish rappers. And no, I'm not referring to
2 Live Jews. Then there was the weather to contend with. Mud. My least favorite surface. Friday was ...well, wet. And I didn't need a refund, but the fine folks at APW offered a free pass to day two for those that couldn't brave the rain on day one. But enough complaining ...Vampire Weekend. Word has it their follow up to their self-titled debut is nearing completion. I didn't catch the names of the new songs they performed, but it whet my appetite for what's to come. Click
here to watch a video of them performing "Mansard Roof" in the rain. I also really enjoyed the Yeah Yeah Yeahs set.
It's Blitz--record of the year? Too soon? I guess it's just a pleasure to find a band making their best record well into their career. Check out some photos after the jump.
