I don't think anyone could dispute the greatness of the Boredoms after
watching Yamataka EYE play with a broken foot the other night at
Terminal 5. The injury, which he picked up on his second night of
touring in Los Angeles, didn't stop him from screaming, yelping and
thrashing around on his good leg.
Once again
EYE had his 7-neck guitar, relentlessly banging on it as a percussion
instrument, each neck tuned to a different note by its creator, Shinji
from DMBQ.
Much like the epic 77BOADRUMS show this past summer, EYE, Yoshimi
P-We, Muneomi Senju and Yojiro played an endless stream of noise
(including some classics off of Super ae and Vision Creation Newsum) while
the audience watched from all angles. The effect of this
theater-in-the-round setup is one of music coming from all directions;
it's an experience only the Boredoms can create. As my friend aptly
described it, "That was like seeing the future, only in the present."
